Ventilated Cabinets for Science Labs Keep Chemical Supplies Organized and Secure

Colleges and universities need to store a variety of chemicals for use in lab classes and faculty research. Because such chemicals can be hazardous, they must be kept secure to prevent unauthorized access and they need to be stored in a well-ventilated location to prevent the accumulation of fumes.
The Midwestern university pictured here had been storing chemicals in a locked storeroom, but the room was becoming overcrowded. Faculty and staff asked the local Spacesaver consultant to design a new storage solution that would increase storage capacity, promote ventilation and security, and allow them to see items in storage.
The Spacesaver solution doubled the room’s storage capacity and improved visibility, safety, and ventilation. Four-post shelving units were fitted with frame doors that had glass panels for visibility, keyed locks for security, and louvers for ventilation. The louvers in the doors were designed to direct airflow into the cabinet, and flexible ductwork extracts air through the top of the units. Ventilation was further improved by specifying slotted shelves that allow air to circulate throughout each unit.
To gain twice the storage capacity, the shelving units were mounted on compact mobile systems to eliminate wasted space. Flexible ductwork was installed to move with the shelving units and integrate with the room’s existing ventilation system. For more information on this solution and others contact us today!
